Magazine Project Genre Research - "Game Informer"
My third magazine is Game Informer, a serial magazine that reports on all things video game related. The cover has a large illustration of multiple characters from a popular game called Overwatch with the title "Top 50 Games of 2016" in large, green, pixelated font.
Most of the articles have to do with, unsurprisingly, video games; namely video games that were popular around 2016 (For Honor, Death Stranding, which was not yet released, The Last of Us Part II, The Last Guardian, and Final Fantasy XV) and other gaming topics such as the top 50 games of the year and how to handle the taboo of sex in video games. The table of articles also features an index of video game titles for those who want to see something about the game that they love the most. Any advertisements, of which there are very few, are for video game related merchandise (like mugs and shirts) or for colleges or universities that have a game developing program.
Most of the photos are of promotional art or gameplay footage of the video game that the article is speaking of. One article also has pictures from a convention hosted by PlayStation, the subject of the article.
Game Informer circulates 6,353,075 units annually, making it the 5th most circulated magazine in the U.S. The magazine has received no notable awards.
