CCR Draft 1
QUESTION 1: How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
My product follows several conventions. Starting with the cover, the title (or masthead) is displayed in a font that's not only larger, more prominent, and another style from the rest of the text but the font is also in a color that the eyes of the viewer are naturally drawn to. Pink is not a commonly occurring color in nature.
The table of contents I used as a way to subvert expectations. Most tables of contents are very "listy" in nature or feature many graphics. Not mine. The openness of the picture and the lack of text on the page is all deliberate. What is displayed is all that is needed.
While the article in its content is nothing that necessarily follows nor subverts expectations, the pictures themselves were meant to be dynamic in their location, angle, and color; they were meant to draw in the reader as best as possible.
No issues are really addressed by my magazine, but it does work to diversify the public knowledge about local bands. I had literally never heard of Kettle of Fish before the creation of this project and they had extremely talented and experienced members among them, multiple albums published, and had headlined several music festivals in Florida and the American Southeast. If I haven't heard of them chances are a great number of other people haven't either.
